The book approaches the topic from a sociolinguistic perspective, systematically analyzing the categories and methods of taboo in Cantonese, studying the circulation of taboos in Hong Kong, and dissecting three taboo phenomena in Cantonese.
The book combines academic rigor with entertainment value and has been acquired by the libraries of Stanford University,University of Toronto, major universities in Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Public Library. It has also received coverage from numerous media outlets, and its sales have been excellent since its publication.
